Mental Health - How to Be Sealed by the Holy Spirit and Enlighten the Eyes of the Heart (Ephesians 1 Meditation)

This is a prison letter written by Paul while he was in a Roman prison, which magnificently describes the relationship between Christ and the church and reveals the nature and glory of the church.

It emphasizes the unity of the church through Christ, transcending the conflict between Jews and Gentiles, and encourages them to fill in each other's shortcomings according to the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

It is closely related to Colossians.

Sealed by the Holy Spirit

1. Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints in Ephesus and the faithful in Christ Jesus:

2. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.

4. God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love.

5. God predestined us to be adopted children of God through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.

6. This is to praise the glory of God's grace, which he freely gave us in his beloved Son.

7. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of God's grace.

8. God has given us all wisdom and understanding.

9. And he made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he purposed in Christ Jesus.

10. This is to unite all things in heaven and on earth under Christ when the time has fully come.

11 In Him we have been chosen as an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to His own purpose,

12. This is so that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, may praise the glory of God .

13. And you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him,

were

sealed with the promised Holy Spirit

14. The Holy Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance, that we may redeem God's own people and praise his glory .

Enlighten the eyes of the mind

15. Therefore, I also heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints.

16. I never cease to thank you for you, remembering you in my prayers.

17. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him .

18. That he may

enlighten the eyes

of your understanding, that you may know what is the hope to which God has called you, what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

19.

I pray that you may know what is the exceeding greatness of God's power, which he has bestowed on

us who believe, according to the working of his mighty power .

20. God exercised his power in Christ by raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavenly places.

21. Far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come .

22. And God put all things under Christ's feet and gave him to be head over all things for the church.

23. The church is the body of Christ, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

" And you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed (made sons of God) with the promised Holy Spirit . (Ephesians 1:13)"

The expression "

seal

" here comes from the concept of using a seal to indicate ownership or protect something in ancient societies.

I would like to share grace through the meaning of “human touch” mentioned in today’s text.

1. Indication of ownership

In ancient times, a seal was placed on a document or object to prove that it belonged to the owner .
Likewise, it means that God has confirmed us as God's children through the Holy Spirit.

2. Protection and Warranty

Once the king stamped a document or order, it became unchangeable and had strong authority .
The seal of the Holy Spirit signifies God's protection and assurance of salvation .
That is, it means that those who belong to God are guaranteed salvation .

3. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit lives in us, testifying and guiding us that we are Christians .
Therefore, those who have received the seal of the Holy Spirit will live according to God's will.

Having received the seal of the Holy Spirit, we have a definite identity as children of God.

We also have the assurance of salvation and can live boldly, believing that God will take responsibility for us until the end.

"I pray that he will have

the eyes

of your understanding enlightened so that you will know what is the hope to which God has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is his exceeding great power toward us who believe, according to the working of his mighty power ." (Ephesians 1:18-19)

As Ephesians 1:18-19 says, God

enlightens

the eyes of our hearts through the Holy Spirit, but we must be spiritually awake to fully see God’s hope and inheritance.

So how can we open our mind's eye?

1. Gain spiritual vision through the words of the Bible

" Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path ." (Psalm 119:105)

When we consistently meditate on the Bible and think deeply about God's will, we begin to see the world from God's perspective , not from the world's values.
Through His Word, we can realize what God's promises and hopes are .

2. Open your spiritual eyes through prayer

" You do not have because you do not ask ." (James 4:2)

God answers when we seek and opens our eyes.
As we become more intimate with God through prayer , our spiritual eyes become brighter.

3. Do not place your hopes on worldly things, but look to eternal things.

" While we look not at what is seen, but at what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal ." (2 Corinthians 4:18)

When we place our hopes on worldly wealth, success, and fame, only our physical eyes become bright and our spiritual eyes become dark.
But if we seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33), God takes charge of our lives.

4. Living a life with the Holy Spirit

“When he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.” (John 16:13)

We must seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit every day and walk with Him.
We must live a life where we are not swayed by the sounds of the world, but instead listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit .

When we do this, we can have eyes that look upon the glory of God's hope and inheritance (heaven and eternal life).

I pray that God will open the eyes of our hearts so that we

can live

a life of faith with the hope of heaven every day. 🙏

Lord, I pray earnestly at this time that you will open the eyes of the heart of the deceased so that he may deeply realize the hope of God's calling and enjoy the abundance of God's inheritance every day .

Please help us live with unwavering faith, looking toward the eternal kingdom of God, not the standards and values of the world, and lead us to live boldly in the world with the power of the Holy Spirit.

May God's immense power work in your life, giving you the strength and wisdom to overcome all fears and to move forward in obedience to God's will .

As we carry out the mission the Lord has given us, may the Holy Spirit personally accompany us, provide us with everything we need, and help us live a life that reveals the glory of God.

Please help Father Gunju stay awake in the Word and pray every day, walk in faith following the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and hold on to the Lord so that he can move forward relying entirely on the Lord in any situation.
